House Harmonizing with Sacred Geometry

SACRED GEOMETRY

Is the earth measure; it is about measuring the projection of the sun onto the earth. By using the ancient measurements around the house we can create total harmony. We can use earth acupuncture to hold these points with rocks or triskels buried into the earth. Triskels neutralize EMF and raise vibration.

We place them in 4 points around the house and in 3 places inside the house. Triskels are energy wheels that create a vortex and when place on sacred points it takes the energy underneath the house and transforms and balances the energy. They are a shape found in many traditions (Celtic, Hindu, Japanese, Chinese, Middle Eastern and Native American)

How do they function to clear a house?

They are energy converters; you need the sacred measurements underneath for it to work. The stronger the energy underneath it creates an equal strength in balancing.

Once you have your 3 triskels up you will get a special structure that appears called a triple enclosure; this will surround the outside of the house. The three first ones are inside the auras.

After the clearing anything that left cannot come back. This is how sacred places were protected.

House Clearing, Space Clearing & Feng Shui

are practices of techniques, ancient and modern, that effect change in the environment of our home, workplace and self. House Clearing is practical magic. It is the study of how to insure the healthy circulation of energy throughout these environments in order to increase our vitality and health, improve our mental attitude, stimulate creativity and productivity, improve our relationships and gain clarity and insight. The most effective way to use House Clearing is to know exactly what you want to accomplish, to be clear about your intentions. You can use these ancient arts and sciences to their maximum benefits through the power of intention. Where intention goes - energy flows.

Space clearing is used to break up any stagnant energy within the home, refresh it, stabilize it and infuse it with your intentions. Here are some practical examples of space clearing that could be considered a vital part of uplifting the chi (energy) of your home.

Space Clearing is a ritual found in almost every traditional or native culture in the world. It is a powerful skill that enables the practitioner to change the atmosphere of the home from one of stagnant energy to one of vibrant health, promoting and spiritually enhancing energy. In traditional cultures, space clearing, or having your home blessed, has always been considered a vital activity when moving into a new home. Typically, when the body's own energy becomes acutely stagnant, symptoms develop including irritability, tiredness, lack of enthusiasm or stamina, and depression.

Space Clearing / House & Land Ceremonies

Most clearings and ceremonies can be done in 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the house or business. If your home or business is more than 3000 square feet, it is a good idea for us to talk about what specific problems and conditions may be in your space and we can estimate how much time it may take.รข€¨
When You need Space Clearing

1. Clearing the Predecessor Energy
When you move into a new home or office, it is important to consider who occupied the space before you and what has occurred there. Their health, happiness, and chi have all affected the space. Even if the new home is stripped bare of all the furnishings, the patterns of their chi will still remain. This predecessor chi will be strongest where they slept, where they sat, and along the 'pathways' that they created as they walked around the rooms.

There will also be parts of a room or the home that they may not have used for various reasons. This could be a spare bedroom or a corner of a room where a piece of furniture stood hiding a corner, thereby not allowing chi to circulate easily. They may have unconsciously reacted to an existing stagnation or contributed to it in their use. Establishing a healthy circulation of chi throughout the home is imperative for your health on all levels.

2. After Physical or Psychological Illness
If you or someone in your home has been ill for a considerable period, the vibration of the home will be affected. When someone is seriously ill at home, the daily routine is affected. The occupants' social life is often inhibited and there is an atmosphere of stillness, quietness and nervous apprehension. For the person who has been ill, there may have been suffering, pain and anxiety. For the occupants who share the space, their energy naturally becomes more subdued. Space clearing after physical or psychological illness will undoubtedly improve the chi of the home and set the tone for a fresh, bright future.

3. After Big Life Changes
Stress from today's hectic lifestyle can affect all of us. The most powerful causes of 'dis-stress' include divorce, bereavement, end of a relationship, and loss of a job or change of career. Once we have come to terms with our grief, frustration or anger, it is time to move on. Rather than living in an atmosphere of chi that is charged by the past, it is important, when appropriate, to clear the old and move forward.

4. After Conflict in the Home
Burglary or, worse, assault in your home creates an atmosphere of chi that needs to be cleared. The space has been violated and many people report feeling uncomfortable when entering their home after such an event. On a lesser level, if you have had violent arguments within the home recently, these have undoubtedly left their mark on the atmosphere. Constant bickering and fighting for months or years on end allows this negative chi to seep into the space and create an atmosphere that supports further disharmony.

What is involved in a session?

There are as many different methods of Space Clearing as there are cultures in the world. The rituals that have been used include the use of herbs, chants, potions, symbolism, spiritual ceremonies, blessings, sacrifices, gifts, fruits, plants, and holy water. Sometimes, the timing of the event to coincide with the planets or moon cycles strengthens the effect. Space clearing can be drawn from Native American traditions, Celtic ceremonies, early Christian rituals or Balinese methods; but an exploration of your ancestral traditions may be the best course of action for you.

Clearing With Dragons Blood

Dragon's blood also has many mystical and spiritual ritual applications and can be used for purposes of enhancing mental science, magic (including mind magic), space clearing, and purification.

It also fosters and promotes good luck, success, love (even useful to return a former lover to you if you desire this), and protection (from negative energy and spirits). It has very strong money drawing and love-drawing properties. The resin is actually more powerful than Sage and nothing clears stagnant and negative energy from a home better than Dragon's Blood. Actually, it is best to alternate between Sage and Dragon's Blood when clearing energy.

The best way to clear one's home (of negative energy and/or unwanted entities) is to pour sea salt onto a plate in the form of a pile, like a little mountain. Make a hole in the middle of the pile and place Dragon's Blood powder or incense pieces in the hole. Set the Dragon's Blood ablaze (with fire) so as to cause it to smoke and walk from the back of the house, room by room (setting your intention), to the front entrance door of the home. Make sure you actually go outside of the front door. There you can put out the smoke.

In the case of negative spirits or entities, one's intention should be a strong and clear demand for the entity to leave the house completely due to it being unwanted. Smoke alters vibration as well as impacts it, even on the etheric plane of existence which is the plane of ghosts (Earthbound spirits) and other entities including poltergeists (angry and belligerent ghosts).

If you can't find incense resin pieces of Dragon's Blood, the incense (on a stick) kind can suffice. If you are dealing with strong negative energy or evil entities, burn a combination of Dragon's Blood, Sage, Lavender, White Copal, Frankincense, and Myrrh daily.

Also, place black colored crystals, i.e. Black Tourmaline, Jet, Obsidian, etc., in the room or home to be exorcised as well as stones/crystals of Amethyst, Celestite, Selenite, and Angelite.

Selenite grids are highly recommended for rooms as well as the entire house. Place Selenite sticks in every corner of a room and/or home. Corners serve as an entryway (or entrance) and/or portal for spirits, negative and positive. This is why a lot of people, especially children, see things in the corner of a room.

Dragon's Blood is a plant of attraction. It helps to attract success, romance and love, good luck (facilitates good karma), wealth and riches (including money). It also promotes fertility, especially in females.

A piece can be placed in one's Love corner of the home (along with pink-colored stones) to attract and foster love and romance, as well as placed in one's Wealth or Money corner of the home (along with green colored crystals and other gemstones associated with wealth, abundance, and prosperity) to attract material wealth and money.

Dragons Blood Clearing

History in a space, whether rented or owned, tends to repeat itself. Make the space your own by removing patterns, thought forms, belief systems, entities and the irk of the former occupants. Historic buildings have generations of the past to remove, but even the patterns of construction workers on a new building are important to eliminate.

Materials Needed:

1.) Dragon's Blood resin, Frankincense resin, and Myrrh resin
2.) Charcoal used for resin incense burning
3.) Aluminum pie pans (one for each "station")
4) Disposable lighters.

Note: All these incense resins come in little packets and are filled with chunks of colored blocks about the size of a small pebble.

The Ritual: It is recommend getting help from a spouse and/or friends when doing this deep cleansing. Not only is it less overwhelming, but feedback from clients confirm that the cleansing is more effective when done with at least another. Better yet, have a "Space Clearing Party." Create a feeling of fun as well as success-invite a few of your friends over for the purification ritual of your environment! Pay them back with pizzas and drinks in your new, improved feeling dwelling!

1. Create multiple stations for incense burners. An inexpensive but entirely effectual station is fashioned by getting an aluminum pie pan and filling it to the top with sand or dirt. Put one of the charcoal disks in the center of the pan on top of the dirt. Place this makeshift incense burner on an everyday plate, then the whole thing is placed on an oven mitt. Put it on the floor in any room or on top of a table. Be very careful and safe! The charcoal burns very hot!!! Make sure that you have enough stations so that every square inch of area can receive the smoke of the Dragon's Blood. Putting a station in every room is not necessary but exercise your intuition on how many stations you need to create. This is not the time to be conservative.

2. Open up at least one or more windows and/or a door leading to the outside in each room. If a room does not have an outside evacuation, make sure that connecting rooms which do have outside windows and/or door are properly opened.

3. Open up all doors in each room of space, including closet doors, bathroom doors, toilet lids, the door to the oven, kitchen cabinets, and so on. The Dragon's Blood smoke encourages all energies to remove themselves from the premises and because the front/back doors and windows are open, it gives these negative influences an exit.

4. Gather the resins together and visualize/imagine the clearing out of all negative influences and the positive, peaceful feelings this ritual will create for your space.

5. Light each charcoal on each station first. Hold the flame from a lighter under the disk until it starts to spark. You may wish to hold the disk with metal tongs to protect your fingers.

6. When you are sure each charcoal disk is staying lit, add about a thumbnail size amount of Dragon's Blood powder to each station (the hammer is your friend-crush the pieces of resin into powder-because adding a piece that is too big to the charcoal tends to melt the incense on it and puts the whole thing out. Avoid this!) When it is clear that each station is smoking well, LEAVE THE SPACE. TAKE YOUR HELPERS, CHILDREN AND PETS AND BE GONE FOR 20 MINUTES. This assures safety for you and your loved ones as these energies are clearing out. Let them do all the hard work. Though one round of burning the Dragon's Blood resin is oftentimes enough, occasionally two or three times of repeating steps 6 completely becomes necessary. If you feel any unpleasant feeling anywhere, in any room upon returning, all stations must be prepared to burn another 20 minute round of Dragon's Blood. It is worth the thoroughness. Use your intuition.

7. Return to your space (after the first, second, or third time) and place Frankincense and Myrrh on the same charcoal stations. If you needed to burn more than one round of Dragon's Blood, it might be necessary to add a new lighted charcoal disks to each station. Frankincense and Myrrh smoke brings back the positive energies and Higher thoughts. You, your loved ones, and friends may stay during this part of the process.

8. The last step of the ritual is to apply the Three Secrets Reinforcement: Stand in the center of your dwelling and visualize/imagine that the ritual was effective and that good, positive things as well as desires are coming to you easily and effortlessly.

Say out loud: "The Dragon's Blood Space Clearing was extremely effective and my home (office) feels amazing, positive, and supportive. Miracles happen daily. This or something better for the Highest Good now occurs."

Note: Never again does such a deep cleansing need to occur in this particular space, but I strongly recommend repeating the Dragon's Blood ritual monthly carrying just one station as you walk from room to room. Again, doors and windows are open to let the negative energies out. Nobody needs to leave during these times as it is clearing you and your loved ones' own personal patterns and energies. Remember always to end with the burning of Frankincense and Myrrh resins. Finally, do the Three Secrets Reinforcement ritual assuring effectiveness.

Ritual Tools Used in Witchcraft and the Occult

Ritual Tools Used in Witchcraft and the Occult

There are different types of magick used in witchcraft and the occult but the ritual tools involved are the same. All practitioners must have a suitable place to perform ritual work preferably with an altar and a magic circle in place. Some ritual tools are considered more important than others. These are known as primary ritual tools and this article will cover those in detail.

Of all the ritual tools used in witchcraft and the occult, the pentacle is instantly recognisable. A pentacle is an object or item which has the famous pentagram symbol painted, carved or engraved on it. This is symbolic of the element of earth. A pentacle can be in the form of a wooden plate sometimes referred to as an altar plate. This can be used to consecrate the circle and hold food during a ritual such as a piece of bread. It can also be made of metal such as brass, silver or pewter. There are many accessories which are made in the form of the pentacle.

The wand is a very powerful tool and is sometimes called a magick wand. It symbolises fire or in some traditions air. Experienced witches and occultists will own numerous wands. They will use each one for a particular type of spell or ritual. Wands can be made from wood or metals such as pewter. They can be decorated with copper or silver wire and some have a crystal inserted into the tip. Some people believe certain spirits do not like the steel construction of the athame or metal wands. In this scenario, a wand made from wood should be used instead.

An athame is a small ritual knife that some people prefer to call a sword. In some traditions, it is associated with the element of air but others associate it with fire. It often has a black handle and it is used to cast a circle and control spirits. There are two types of athame. The traditional version is constructed of steel although a wood version also exists. This is equally as popular because it cannot be confused with weaponry.

The chalice is a ceremonial cup and is symbolic for the element of water. Some people refer to it as a goblet or alter cup. Some traditions consider it a symbol rather than a ritual tool. In particular, it symbolises the womb of the goddess. A chalice can be made from numerous materials including silver, brass, pewter, wood or even cast from resin.

There are a number of additional tools which come in handy when performing a certain type of ritual. These include the censer or incense burner which is used to burn or dispense incense, the boline which is a white handled knife used for any task in which it would not be appropriate to use an athame, and the besom commonly known as the witches broom. This is used to sweep a circle to banish any negative energy.

You should now have a better understanding of the ritual tools used in witchcraft and the occult. There are others such as the cauldron, stang, spear, cingulum and scourge. However, these are not as commonly used in comparison to the aforementioned primary ritual tools.

Incense Throughout History

Incense has been around since man's discovery of fire. Research has found ancient incense artefacts throughout the world, some of them thousands of years old, and it appears to have been part of practically every culture. Incense has five primary ingredients: wood pulp, an adhesive like gum Arabic, water, potassium nitrate (which is used to light the incense), and aromatic material. Many of the aromas come from woods and resins, like cedar and frankincense. What most people think of as incense is cones or incense sticks, although it comes in many forms, such as chopped herbs, raw woods, powders, pastes, liquids, and fragrant oils.

Throughout its history, incense has been made from a wide variety of materials, historically those locally available. Many different essential oils or artificial fragrances are commonly used for incense. Commercially retailed incense made from a blend of materials, is generally more expensive when higher amounts of essential oils are used than ones made with unextracted raw materials. Extracting essential oils from raw plant materials can be very time consuming and labour intensive.

Discover the 5 Most Popular Incense Fragrances

Today, the most popular fragrances are Frankincense, Sandalwood, Lavender, Patchouli, and Rose.

Frankincense

Frankincense is an aromatic resin from the Boswellia family of trees. Frankincense is available in different grades, based on its purity, colour, age, and aroma. Its aroma is characterized by a balsamic spiciness with slight lemon and conifer undertones. Frankincense has been traded throughout the world for more than 5,000 years. Frankincense aroma has long been used by the Christian, Islamic, and Judaic faiths, such as to anoint newborn babies.

Sandalwood Incense

Sandalwood refers to several aromatic woods, including Indian Sandalwood and Australian Sandalwood. Its fragrance provides a wood base note to many perfumes. Sandalwood smells similar to other wood scents, but it has a bright, fresh edge. Sandalwood oil is widely used by the cosmetics industry, and it is very expensive. True sandalwood is a protected species, but many plants are traded under the sandalwood name. Sandalwood has been treasured for centuries for its fragrance.

Lavender Incense

Lavender represents 39 flowering varieties of the mint family. The oil from its flowers is used extensively for aromatherapy, including incense. It has long been associated with medical uses, such as relieving tension headaches and respiratory conditions, and it can even work as a mosquito repellent. With its calming, sedative effects, lavender has long been used as an aromatic bath additive.

Patchouli Incense

Patchouli is another aromatic member of the mint family, with a heavy, strong scent. It is commonly used in perfumes, especially men's perfumes. Patchouli scent has been referred to as powerful, pungent, mossy, and musty. Originally used to prevent moths from infesting silks as they were transported to Europe from Asia, patchouli has become associated with exotic, far-away lands. It has widespread commercial uses, including as a fragrance additive for paper towels and fabric softeners.

Rose Incense

From the earliest periods, the beautiful rose fragrance has been used throughout the world. Oil from roses has a distinctive floral scent, often used in aromatherapy for relaxation. It takes several pounds of rose petals to produce one ounce of rose oil, making it an expense process. Even with its high prices and the availability of synthetic compounds, genuine rose oil is still very popular for perfumes.

There are hundreds, perhaps even thousands of subtly different incense aromas available for you to try. Consider trying some of the most popular fragrances to begin with then move on to discover the amazing properties to calm and invigorate in equal measures.

The Gift of Frankincense

The Gift of Frankincense

ItemTitle

Frankincense truly has proven to be a gift from the creator for me and my family! As are all of the oils I use from Young Living!

I personally have used frankincense for a number of things, including creating a blend that included frankincense for my husband after he suffered a small stroke from food poisoning. As a result of this, he had double-vision. The eye doctor said he had a small nerve damaged in the brain. So, I made up an oil blend which included frankincense that I applied to the brain stem, temples, top of head, and on the brain reflex points on the feet. I applied it 2-3 times. And the next day...no more double vision!

Frankincense truly is a healing gift! Considered the Holy Anointing Oil, it is well-known historically for its healing powers. It has been used medicinally and spiritually for thousands of years, since the dawn of recorded history. It is mentioned in the Bible 22 times from Exodus to Revelation. A man's wealth was measured by his stores of frankincense oil. Because it was valued more than gold at that time, it was given to Jesus. It takes 40 years for a frankincense tree to mature so that the oil resin can be extracted. This accounts for the esteemed value of the oil.

Here are some interesting things about frankincense.

Inhalation increases spiritual awareness.

Frankincense helps increase the activity of leukocytes in defending the body against infection.

Frankincense can be applied to the Vitaflex points for the brain to help the limbic region for production of thyroid and human growth hormone. That point is on the back of the big toe on the right foot.

Applying frankincense to the sternum (breastbone) helps protect the immune system and body from negative energies such as radiation, electromagnetic frequencies, and microwaves.

Frankincense has been considered a "Universal Medicine" from ancient times to present. It was good for "everything from gout to a broken head," according to Egyptian hieroglyphics. It was used for depression, cancer, inflammation, to boost the immune system and for respiratory infections.

"In 1993 a friend of mine introduced me to essential oils. As he shared his love for the oils, I showed him a small basal cell carcinoma that was near my lip and told him I was scheduled the following week to have it surgically removed. He handed me a small bottle of frankincense and told me to apply it three or four times a day. I applied it immediately and within 24 hours the carcinoma had changed characteristic and, within 36 hours, was completely gone. The carcinoma has never returned and that fateful meeting changed my life forever."

-Jean Marie Hepworth

Indeed, frankincense is a powerful oil and I always have it in my home!

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

A Brief History of Incense

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

It is believed that the use of incense originated in Egypt. However, these aromatic materials date back to biblical times so there is no tangible proof. Wide ranging cultures use the aromas for different needs. Pharaohs used the aromatics to drive away evil spirits, and some religions still practice this. Some believe that the strong fragrance brings them closer to prophets, and that it enhances prayer value. At times bouquets are used as direct gifts of thanks to the gods. Over many centuries the scents were used in warrior's helmets as a sign of strength, and by others in purification ceremonies.

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

Eventually incense became a sign of dignity and beauty. It became a source of entertainment and a concentration aid as well. Incense popularity spread throughout the East and the Mediterranean to a point of high demand which developed into the Incense Trade Route, or Incense Road. Tree resins, spices, dried saps, and rare woods were used as exchange. This was the beginning of a very significant time in history, and like anything that is lucrative, eventually caused conflict directly by hoarding for control.

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

Incense - How to Enjoy it and Create Perfect Calm

Incense from Natural Resources

The Arabian grown Boswellia tree offers an extremely fragrant resin. This is believed to be the primary factor of frankincense in the bible. The resin is still a profitable commodity, and is available in different grades. There are frankincense dealers to help choose a good harvest quality. Using incense made from high-end resin is distinct in some religions, and the product is still hoarded to a certain degree. Other woods used for aromatic resins are sandalwood, cypress, and cedar.

Oils are another approach to making incense. Although, it is argued that the oil based product isn't as high in quality or authentic. They're cheaper in price and suitable to many people. Most incense offered in retail stores are derived from a mixture of resins, essential oils and synthetic fragrance oils. Flower buds from lavender and rose will fill the air with a pleasant bouquet. Sage, bay, and balsam leaves are commonly used, and animal oil such as musk is sought after. Couch grass and spikenard roots have a unique scent, and the calming aroma of nutmeg oil is made from the fruit of its evergreen tree.

Incense to Create the Perfect Atmosphere

When purchasing incense sticks, cones, or resins, for meditation it is much like deciding which medication is best for what ails you may have. If you're seeking protection you might choose hyssop, sage, anise, or the well known frankincense. Love is believed to be summonsed by jasmine, thyme, musk, and vanilla. Peace is attracted by magnolia or lilac, while clove, pine, and honeysuckle enable wealth. If purification is on your list perhaps it's time for sandalwood, lime, or anise. Scents that are used for multiple needs will stretch your dollar. For example, lavender will rally love, peace, and purification. Patchouli is a well-liked aroma for alleviating stress, anger, and anxiety.

How to Burn Incense and Enjoy it

The indirect burning of incense requires an outside source of heat, and non-combustible incense must be used. Resins and wood chips are appropriate for this technique. A good source of heat is charcoal tablets, and beautiful incense bowls are made specifically for this.

Direct burning requires a direct flame to the incense, and after a few moments the flame is extinguished. The cones or incense sticks will smoulder and give out the full advantage of the aromas. There are scores of fascinating and decorative burners to enjoy this technique.

The most important thing is to enjoy incense and try out different types to either uplift your spirits or create a perfect calm.

Perfume Attraction - Perfume History & Advantages of Discount Perfume Fragrances

Primitive perfumery began with burning of gums and resins for incense used in religious rites of ancient China, Palestine, and Egypt. Then scented plants were incorporated into animal and vegetable oils to anoint the body for ceremonies. By 3000 BC Egyptians were importing large quantities of Myrrh.

The Greek word "aromata" described incense, perfume, spices and aromatic medicines. By the 7th century BC, Athens had hundreds of perfume shops. 1st century AD Rome was going though about 2,800 tons of imported frankincense and 550 tons of myrrh annually. The Roman Emperor Nero in 54 AD spent the equivalent of 0,000 to scent just one Party he gave. The spread of Islam in the 6th and 7 th centuries helped to expand he appreciation of fragrance. Mohammed's favorite scent was probably camPh Meters and allow it to dry on its own -- do not rub your skin after application as this will alter the smell, even if you're dabbing it on rather than spraying.

How can I make my cologne's scent last longer?

A great way to maximize your cologne's scent is by "layering" the fragrance; if possible, use the same brand of shower gel, body lotion or after-shave, before applying your cologne. Speaking of after-shave, if you want to apply an after-shave whose scent differs from your cologne's fragrance, I recomMend using an unscented after-shave or balm so as not to distort your cologne's scent.

Note: Eau de Toilette spray should last 2 to 4 hours, while Eau de Cologne should last approximately 2 hours.

How do I know if I'm wearing too much cologne?

Keep in mind that cologne should only be sensed by those who are within arm's length of you; you'll know if you're wearing too much if those at a greater distance can smell you as well.

Why does cologne smell differently on different people?

The way your cologne smells on you has to do with your body's chemistry, which depends greatly on your diet. Not only can your diet affect the way a fragrance smells, but it can also have an effect on how long the cologne lasts. A high fat or spicy diet can even intensify a discount fragrance.

Your skin type also plays a role in the intensity of cologne. For example, oily skin makes a fragrance more intense, and tends to retain the cologne's scent for a longer amount of time than dry skin.

Whether you just can't shake your trademark scent or are ready to trade in your familiar fragrance for something more refreshing, your application technique and storing method are essential if you want to make sure you smell as great as you can.

Give some of the six discount colognes Mentioned a try -- for weekend days, the office or nighttime affAirs -- and women will wonder who the fellow leaving a trace of sex appeal is.

Essential Oils As Cancer Treatments - Research Updates on Two Important Oils

Essential Oils As Cancer Treatments - Research Updates on Two Important Oils

The search for a cure for Cancer has been in full-swing for many years. Scientists around the globe are investigating every possible substance and protocol that they can dream up to offer mankind relief from this often terminal illness. Included in this research are many plants and plant extracts that have played significant roles in traditional medicine systems throughout history. In the last few years, interest and research into the potential of essential oils as anticancer agents has grown treMendously. (For those new to essential oils, they are simply the volatile aromatic constituents of plants -- for example, the chemicals that make up the scent of a Rose or the pungency of fresh Basil. They are complex compounds, very compatible with human physiology, with a host of research-supported health benefits.)

Two Outstanding Essential Oils Researched for Anticancer Activity

Sorting through the available research published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, one finds two particular essential oils most often associated with anticancer activity: Frankincense and Lemongrass. To clarify, Lemongrass is distilled from the grass leaves of Cymbopogon citratus; the name Frankincense actually refers to the resin of Olibanum trees found mostly in Ethiopia, Somalia and India -- the essential oil is distilled from the resin -- or 'sap' -- of these trees. Both Lemongrass and Frankincense have a very long history of medicinal use. Frankincense has been one of the most highly valued medicinal products throughout man's history -- Lemongrass just happens to be very prolific, but its efficacy is no less valuable because of its availability.

Modern Research Proves Ancient Medicine's Potential

Frankincense essential oil has been noted by leading medical aromatherapists to be most effective immune system modulating aromatic. A review of the research on Frankincense oil is quite amazing, and lives up to this declaration. Using the search term 'frankincense oil cancer' on the National Institute of Health's database produces 34 results (as of this writing). Frankincense oil appears to have the ability to distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells in an organ or tissue, and lead to the death of the cancerous cells while leaving the healthy ones unharmed.

Research is focusing on the chemical components of the essential oil unique to frankincense: the Boswellic acids. These natural compounds have been thoroughly studied for their anti-inflammatory activity, with a significant body of positive results. Boswellic acids can be used to reduce pain and inflammation in arthritic joints, and has even been shown to improve the texture and appearance of skin that may be prematurely aged due to sun overexposure. It is these same Boswellic acids that have been shown to induce natural cell death in cancerous cells -- it is one of the features of cancer that natural cell death does not occur, and the cancerous cells then in essence grow unabated throughout the body.

Cancer Cell Specificity

The conclusion of a study published in the journal of CompleMentary and Alternative Medicine, March 2009, by researchers at the University of Oklahoma was "Frankincense oil appears to distinguish cancerous from normal bladder cells, and suppress cancer cell viability". This is truly a profound result, when considering what modern chemotherapy does -- reduces the viability of all cells in and surrounding a tumor, with the hope that healthy cells live through the process in significant enough numbers that the patient recovers. Similar results have been published for a great many kinds of cancer: melanoma, leukemia, liver, colon and prostate, and anecdotal reports have supported its use in the treatMent of breast cancer as well.

Lemongrass: Tropical Healer

The first result of a search for 'lemongrass' and 'cancer' is a paper titled "Anticancer activity of an essential oil from Cymbopogon flexuosus" (Cf is a popular species of Lemongrass, though other research also shows similar effects from Cymbopogon citratus). This study published in the May 2009 'Chemico-biological Interactions', performed at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, examined both in-vitro (essentially "in the test tube")and in-vivo (in the body) anticancer activity of Lemongrass essential oil. The oil was actually evaluated for efficacy against 12 cancer cell lines in-vitro, and 2 in-vivo. The results were no less than astounding. Lemongrass was effective at inhibiting proliferation of all the cell lines, though with significant variation in the concentrations required for this effect. The lowest concentrations of Lemongrass were needed to inhibit growth of colon cancer and neuroblastoma cells in-vitro (a type of cancer of the nerve cells occurring in children and Infants). Using mouse models, lemongrass essential oil was effective at limiting proliferation of a type of breast cancer and a connective-tissue cancer.

Israeli researchers, publishing their results in the May 2007 Planta Medica, discovered similar results focusing on a primary constituent of Lemongrass essential oil: Citral. This natural constituent adds the 'lemony' aroma to many essential oils, including of course Lemon, Melissa, and Lemon Verbena. Citral was noted to also show cancer cell specificity (liver cancer cells were evaluated in this case), causing only the cancer cells to die off. It appears that lemongrass essential oil, like Frankincense, also induces natural cell death in cancer cells, sparing normal healthy cells in the process.

These studies (and others available through medical research databases) are indeed promising -- most noting in some way that the low toxicity, availability and cancer-cell specificity of these natural compounds warrant further investigation. Because of the current climate regarding funding of alternative therapies, it will take either a governMent wishing to significantly save on health care costs, or a large grass roots effort, to further the research to a point where specific therapeutic protocols are developed. In the meantime, there are many respected, well-educated health professionals that may be willing to offer advice for those wishing to learn more on how Frankincense and/or Lemongrass might be employed as preventative measures.
